An emergency summit with the participation of Arab and Islamic countries will be held in Qatar on September 14 in connection with the Israeli strike on the Hamas leadership in Doha.

Azerbaijan will be represented at the summit by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, the ministry's press service reported.

On September 9, Israel struck a building housing representatives of the Hamas leadership, traditionally based in Doha. Hamas said that all senior members of the movement's leadership survived the strike, but six people were killed, including Hamam Khalil al-Hayya, the son of Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas's chief negotiator abroad.

Russia, the United States, Arab countries and the European Union condemned such actions.

The day before, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani told CNN that the Israeli action ended the possibility of a negotiated release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip.
