Azerbaijan public transport fares rise 20% (0.6 manat / $0.35) starting October 1 for Baku Metro and buses. Details on tariff changes, carrier sustainability, and fleet renewal plans.

Public transport tariffs in Azerbaijan have been raised by 20 percent.

Effective October 1, the cost of a single trip on the Baku Metro will be 0.6 manat ($0.35). The fare for intra-city bus transport will be the same.

The Board of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport established the new tariffs for passenger transportation on metro and bus routes, according to a statement from the agency released on September 29.

According to the adopted decision, starting October 1, the cost of a single trip on the Baku Metro will amount to 0.6 manat ($0.35).

The minimum fare for travel on regular intra-city (intra-district), inter-settlement, and suburban bus routes will also be the same.

Currently, the fare for the Baku Metro and the minimum tariff for domestic bus transportation on regular intra-city (intra-district), inter-settlement, and suburban bus routes is 0.5 manat ($0.29).

"The tariff change will positively affect the increase in the financial sustainability of carriers, accelerate the renewal of the bus fleet (the annual purchase and integration of approximately 400 new buses into transportation is expected in the coming years), ensure payment convenience for the public, stimulate the use of environmentally friendly buses, and increase transparency in passenger transportation," the ministry's press release further noted.

Separately, new tariffs for taxi services at Baku Airport were established starting September 10. As a result, the cost of trips from the airport doubled.
