Azerbaijan and the UAE have agreed to build two container ships for cargo transshipment on the Caspian Sea.

On September 16 in Shusha, an agreement on this was signed with the participation of the Head of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the President of the UAE, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

A contract for the construction of two container ships with a capacity of 780 TEU, intended for operation in the Caspian Sea, was concluded between the state legal entity "Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON)," represented by Baku Shipyard LLC, and Abu Dhabi Ports Company PJSC. After the completion of construction, scheduled for 2028, both vessels will be able to operate on key routes to optimize transport links between major trade centers on the Caspian Sea.

The new vessels will play an important role in strengthening the Middle Corridor, which connects Asia and Europe via the Caspian Sea, the South Caucasus, and the Black Sea.

During the UAE President's visit, about a dozen and a half documents were signed, covering various areas of cooperation, including the "Joint Declaration on a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates."
