Azerbaijan and the EU can cooperate on the renewal of Nakhchivan's transport infrastructure.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the European Union's Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Magdalena Grono, on August 28.
According to the website of the Head of Azerbaijan, Grono conveyed to Ilham Aliyev "the greetings of the EU leadership, and also congratulated the President on behalf of the European Union leadership and herself on the important results achieved in Washington regarding the normalization of relations with Armenia and the peace agenda." She emphasized that this process makes a great contribution to ensuring lasting peace in the region.
The guest noted that the European Union countries support the achievement of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. In addition, Grono stated the EU's readiness to support the implementation of issues agreed upon between the two countries, including the creation of a transport corridor.
Aliyev, noting the "historical significance of the results achieved in Washington, especially emphasized the role of the United States of America in this process." The President stated that the Washington Declaration signed with U.S. mediation, the initialing of the peace agreement, and the joint appeal of Azerbaijan and Armenia for the dissolution of the Minsk Group are "important steps on the path to peace."
During the meeting, it was noted that Azerbaijan supports measures to strengthen bilateral trust with Armenia. The importance of creating unhindered transport and transit communication between the main part of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan AR was especially emphasized, and broad opportunities for cooperation with the EU in the renewal of Nakhchivan's transport infrastructure were stated.
During the conversation, there was also an exchange of views on the prospects for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
