Aliyev and Pashinyan Meet in China

On September 1, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China.
According to the website of the Azerbaijani head of state, "The leaders discussed the Azerbaijani-Armenian peace agenda, emphasizing the importance of constructive dialogue, mutual trust, and regional stability." The report concluded by stating, "Both leaders noted the positive momentum achieved during the recent Washington summit, which confirmed international support for advancing peace and the normalization process. The parties agreed to continue their contacts."
This was the first meeting between Aliyev and Pashinyan since the agreement on establishing peace and normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia was initialed in Washington on August 8 in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump.
