Tragedy at Lake Hotel: Four Employees Die from Electric Shock

Tragedy at Lake Hotel, Baku: Four young workers (18, 19, 20, 28) died instantly on Nov 21 after their metal ladder struck a high-voltage power line in the Binagadi area. An investigation is underway into labor protection violations (Criminal Code 162.3). Details on the fatal accident and the privately owned 35 kV line.

A shocking accident took the lives of four young workers at the Lake Hotel in Baku's Binagadi area. On November 21, the employees were working outside the hotel, located on the Khirdalan-Binagadi highway (4th kilometer), when they suffered a fatal electric shock.


The deceased have been identified as:


  • Javidan Muradli, 28

  • Emil Guliyev, 20

  • Eltaj Aliyev, 19

  • Akbar Zeynalov, 18


Reports say the incident happened when a metal ladder the men were carrying touched a high-voltage power line. All four died at the scene.


The Prosecutor General's Office has verified the event. The Binagadi District Prosecutor's Office has started a criminal case under Article 162.3 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. This deals with labor protection violations that result in the death of two or more people because of carelessness. An investigation is in progress.


Azərişıq JSC, the state utility company, said that the 35 kV high-voltage line involved in the accident is owned privately. This line was put into service in 2007 and is not part of the company's assets.
