Seven Dead as Russia Launches Major Strike on Ukraine; Dnipro Residential Building Hit

Russia launched a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine on Saturday, killing at least seven people across the country. The city of Dnipro bore the heaviest toll, with four people killed after a missile struck a residential building. The attacks underscored the grim human cost of the ongoing war even as diplomatic efforts, including Zelensky's visit to Azerbaijan, continue in parallel.
Ukrainian forces struck back overnight: the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Yaroslavl oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl caught fire following a Ukrainian strike. A Pantsir air defense system and radar installations were also reported destroyed. Earlier in the week, Ukraine and Russia conducted a prisoner exchange, with freed personnel including soldiers, National Guard members, border guards, and police officers.
The strikes come amid a complex diplomatic picture. Zelensky is simultaneously pressing for a sustainable peace framework — most recently proposing Azerbaijan as a potential negotiating venue — while Kyiv continues to demonstrate it can carry out deep strikes on Russian territory. Analysts say Ukraine's strategy aims to raise the cost of continued Russian aggression while keeping Western and regional partners engaged.
