Ukraine faces a major political crisis amidst the war due to a $100M Energoatom corruption scandal. Ministers resign, former Deputy PM Chernyshov is jailed, and pressure mounts on Zelensky's aide, Yermak. Read how the embezzlement and parliamentary chaos threaten government stability.

A big corruption issue has caused political problems in Ukraine. Some ministers have quit, a former deputy prime minister has been arrested, and there's more stress on President Volodymyr Zelensky's top aide, Andriy Yermak. This is happening while Russia is still attacking, which makes people worry about how stable the government is and if defense money is being used correctly.

Ministers Step Down and Parliament is Chaotic

On November 19, the Ukrainian Parliament voted to accept the resignations of Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko and Minister Svitlana Grinchuk. Halushchenko's name has come up in energy sector corruption investigations done by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU).

Before that, on November 18, things got messy when opposition members from Petro Poroshenko's European Solidarity group stopped the parliament from working. They wanted the whole government to resign, saying they wouldn't let anyone cover up the corruption system.

Details of the Embezzlement and People Involved

This political mess is happening because there's a big investigation into Energoatom, the company that runs Ukraine's nuclear power plants. NABU says they found a plan that supposedly laundered $100 million.

Two important people are involved:

  • Oleksiy Chernyshov: The former Deputy Prime Minister has been sentenced to jail for 60 days by Ukraine’s High Anti-Corruption Court because of the Energoatom issue. But he can be released if he pays about $1.23 million in bail. Prosecutors think he got rich illegally, but Chernyshov says that's not true.

  • Timur Mindich: He helped start the Kvartal 95 studio and used to work with President Zelensky. Investigators say he benefited from the illegal plan. He supposedly left the country right
