This shipment happened because Azerbaijan is no longer restricting cargo transport.
The Armenian government says that a train carrying grain got to Armenia after going through Kazakhstan, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.
Davit Khudatyan, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, said that the first shipment of Kazakh wheat, weighing 1,000 tons, is now in Armenia after crossing the border from Georgia. He added that it is big news, because the wheat went through Russia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. This became possible because of the peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the agreements signed in Washington in August.
Two days before this, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the first wheat import to Armenia through Azerbaijan was a big deal.
A few weeks before that, the President of Azerbaijan said in Kazakhstan that Baku was ending the ban on Armenian cargo going through the country. Alexey Overchuk, the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, said that Baku agreed to let Russian goods be transported to Armenia, too.
Like we said, a train holding 1,000 tons of Kazakh wheat is in Armenia. It traveled through Kazakhstan, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.
The government said that wheat could be sent to Armenia because Azerbaijan stopped restricting cargo transport. This helps to rebuild the area's transportation routes and boost business partnerships based on the Washington agreements. Also, train shipments of wheat bought from Russia have gone to Armenia through Azerbaijan and Georgia recently.
