Azerbaijan has begun supplying natural gas to Ukraine for the first time. The test delivery is being carried out via the Trans-Balkan route through the Bulgaria-Romania-Ukraine corridor.
Ukraine's Naftogaz Group has signed its first agreement with SOCAR Energy Ukraine, part of the SOCAR group, for the purchase of Azerbaijani natural gas, Naftogaz announced.
According to the company, this marks the first test delivery of Azerbaijani gas via the Trans-Balkan route, utilizing the Bulgaria-Romania-Ukraine corridor.
"This is a small step in terms of volume, but a strategically important one that opens the way for long-term cooperation. It is also another example of diversifying supply sources and strengthening Ukraine's energy security," said Sergiy Koretsky, CEO of Naftogaz.
SOCAR Energy Ukraine also operates a network of gas stations in Ukraine.
Azerbaijan began supplying gas to Europe in late 2020 via the Southern Gas Corridor.
In 2024, Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe amounted to 12.9 billion cubic meters.
Currently, Azerbaijan supplies gas to Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Serbia.
