Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU) have agreed to form a high-level economic working group, said EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kós following her visit to Azerbaijan on September 18.

"We had an active discussion with Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov. Peace in the South Caucasus region opens up opportunities for markets, trade, and investment. To take advantage of them, we agreed to create a high-level Economic Working Group," Kós wrote on the social network X following her meeting with Jabbarov.

She added that Azerbaijan and the EU will continue to strengthen their partnership.

This spring, during a visit to Baku by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Politics Kaja Kallas, the parties agreed to resume work on a new comprehensive partnership agreement.

Work on the document began almost 10 years ago. According to informed sources, the parties' disagreements are mainly caused by trade issues.
