Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that while there are problems in relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, the "interest in developing ties will put everything in its place."

"In relations between countries, questions always arise based on the current situation or political climate. There are problems. Today, I greeted President [of Azerbaijan Ilham] Aliyev, and we exchanged a few words," Putin said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev shook hands in greeting at the festivities in Beijing, but there was no "substantive communication" between them, said Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the Russian leader.

"With Aliyev, they greeted each other and shook hands, but there was no substantive communication [which means having a concrete content or being aimed at practical results]," Peskov said.

Aliyev and Putin were in the PRC to participate in the SCO summit and the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
